Kitchen Island
Island is small at 2’x6′ with waterfall ends, wood back with molding detail and green shaker fronts — in this location it has 40″ of clearance to stove and 40″ of clearance passage to banquette. Originally was thinking we’d do all open shelving as in reference image below, but the drawers here are nice and reflect the base cabinetry. 24″ built-in microwave to go in upper-right corner, across from main stove.
For drawers, was thinking the left drawer at 9″-12″ would be useful for vertical storage of sheet-pans and cutting boards with an insert like those pictured. For the center drawers, would love to have 33″-36″ drawers here, that could store pots/pans and plates or other bakeware. This size drawer is one thing I was missing from the main cabinets, and would be a compelling reason to do the island.
Maybe hidden toekick storage for wine bottles or other flat stuff?

Reference: Island in “Leschi House” from Dwell Magazine – no overhange, 2′ wide?

Reference: Island with Open Storage – 3′ x 8′ (we would eliminate seating/overhang for 2’x6′ open storage island I think)

Hidden storage in the toe-kick for wine bottles and stuff?
